Other types of Yeast Infections

December 11, 2010

Hi Tan Yook Boi,

We're almost at the end of our 6 part mini eCourse. Throughout the last few days, we've discussed what a yeast infection was, how to identify it with a few symptoms and especially how to help cure them with a few simple natural remedies.

In today's lesson, we will be looking at a few different types of yeast infection. That's right. Most of you who are reading this might think that a yeast infection only happens to women, ie a vaginal yeast infection.  That is a very common mistake as vaginal yeast infections are by far the most common occurring type of yeast infection.

But do you know, there are 4 other main types of yeast infections?

For example, are you aware that it is VERY possible for a man to get yeast infection of the penis?

Yeast infections, as we know, need warm, damp and dark environments to flourish. And the vagina readily meets all those requirements, more so than the penis. That is why, should a man get a penile yeast infection, it is usually caught from having sexual intercourse with their partners.

Having said that, a few factors can increase the likelihood of a male contracting it, and even make the infection a recurring one. Aside from taking antibiotics, as we've learnt in Lesson 2, are you aware that excessive beer drinking can actually increase your chances of getting a yeast infection? The alcohol has a chance of destroying the good bacteria, thus upsetting the balance in your system, and the sugars in the beer also provide a feeding station for the fungus!!

The signs of a male yeast infection can be quite different from those of a female's. Some signs include dry, cracked skin on the penile head, itchy, flaky skin as well as an increased urge to urinate. Should the latter happen, chances are the infection has already spread up the urethra into the bladder.

What should a man do if he gets an infection? Most of the natural cures discussed will help, although some over the counter and prescribed medication are designed specifically for a woman.

Some simple things a man can do, are firstly, to ensure the area is kept dry and wet clothing is avoided as much as possible. It is also possible for diluted tea tree oil, or even garlic oil, to be applied twice daily, for about 4 to 5 days.

Some of the other kinds of yeast infection that Leigh Hunter covers in her book include yeast infections of the fingernails, mouth, throat as well as the intestines!! Leigh goes through meticulously on the symptoms and natural cures for each of these specialised types of yeast infections. Not only that, she also talks about why tea tree oil should not be used in certain situations, contrary to what a lot of people believe!

And that brings us to the conclusion of our mini-course.
