Welcome to the 3rd lesson on your journey to yeast infection enlightment!
Today we will discuss modern, conventional cures as well as the pros and cons about them and most importantly, why they don't always work.
Firstly, what are the advantages of over the counter, prescription medication? The answer is, they are very convenient, easy to use, and you tend to see results relatively faster. And that's where the advantages end, unfortunately. The disadvantages, I'm sad to say, are two-fold.
One, quite a number of them may cause side-effects; with a few of these requiring medical attention should you get them. Two, they only treat the symptoms, and not the cause!!
Remember in lesson 2 we discussed the causes of yeast infection? A cream or pill is not going to change the way you live your life, or the clothes you wear...etc. If you had ants on your kitchen top, you don't simply wipe the ants away. You get rid of whatever is attracting the ants there in the first place! Otherwise you will simply spend the rest of your life cleaning and killing the ants that appear there. Similarly, to truly combat yeast infections, we need to get to the root of the problem, not just treat the symptoms as and when they appear and afflict us.
Conventional cures include oral tablets, vaginal tablets, lotions and creams. Some of these will work for people, but mostly if they are healthy and having a one-off yeast infection. They will not be effective against recurrent yeast infections. Some of the more popular ones are Mycostatin, Terazol and Monistat. The side effects of these medications may include itching, vaginal irritation, stomach upset, swelling of the face, vaginal pain, blistering and even fluid retention.
And those are just a few of the side effects you may get!! Do you really want to risk even worse side effects and symptoms for a condition that you can very safely and naturally treat, without the nasty side effects?
Of course you do NOT!
*Disclaimer: I am not a trained medical doctor. My advice is to help you make smart, informed decisions on treatment choices, not substitute the advice of a medically trained doctor. Always talk to a doctor or trained naturopath if you have any doubts at all or if you have never gotten a yeast infection in your life.
